Here’s why you may want to reconsider selling your own home.

Thinking about selling your own home? Today I’m sharing why you may want to rethink that.

A lot of people think that by selling their own home, they can save on the commission they’d have to pay an agent. However, I can tell you this from experience: A good real estate agent will pay you back the commission and then some with their expertise.

I tell every potential FSBO seller to factor in a 3% commission to the buyer’s agent, even if they don’t hire one of their own. More than half of all homebuyers are working with one. The NAR reported that in 2020, the national average for a FSBO home sale was 7% lower than homes sold by an agent.

“The art of leverage is key in this world.”

The average sale price of a FSBO property in 2020 was $260,000. The average for homes sold with an agent was $318,000. That’s a $58,000 difference in average price to save just $9,000 on average commission. These numbers show that agents pay for themselves.

I’ve seen sellers list their own homes time and time again and fail. When they do fail, we help them sell for more than they could have on their own. The key to this world is the art of leverage. When you partner with an experienced broker who has a strong track record, you get more leverage and more money in your pocket. It’s a statistical fact.
